Sending Notes email as MIME messages

In the beginning there was Notes. And Notes was used inside the corporation only. And things were good. Then came the time to link Notes to other eMail systems. These other systems only supported text. And things were good. Then MIME arrived. Notes added MIME conversion and trouble started <vbg>. A lot of admins didn't like MIME since it required additional bandwidth and opened up a can of potential worms. So they switched off the incoming or outgoing mime conversion. And forgot about the settings. So today many users grief because their nice messages are dumbed down to text. Fixing that is easy as 1-2-3 once you get your server configuration document into edit mode:

If most of your communication partners use Notes on the other end of the pipes, you might consider to encapsulate the original message by default (your bandwidth watchdog will hate you for that)

    Interesting. We had "Plain text" preselected on a server, but this is a fresh 8.5 installation (including upgrades from 8.5 code drops). Does IBM preselect that option in the GA builds?

    @Karsten: PlainText has the smallest results, so one could argue it makes a good default.

    Fine. Four lines of formatted text make:

    4 lines of text/plain
    6 lines of text/html
    4887 lines of application/X-Lotus-Encap2

    Now I know what you mean with the bandwidth comment Emoticon wink.gif


    I think it should be added that this setting has no effect when the client's set to send mime mail to internet recipients.

    @Oliver: Take 2 pages of heavily formatting infested RichText and text/html will grow exponentially. As I said: for full encapsulation the network guys will hate you.

    I tried the option that admins will hate (because I'm the admin of that server Emoticon wink.gif ). All it did was to add a file "encap2.ond" to every outgoing email (tested with GMX webmailer and Notes 8.5.1 CD8 client behind a R7 mail server).
